We at Hendriks Greenhouses are committed to providing our customers with the
highest levels of service, while offering only unique quality products at the
most competitive prices. We conduct our business with honesty and integrity,
and preserve the values of the past while embracing the challenges of the future. |
History Located
near the shore of Lake Ontario in the scenic region of Niagara, Ontario,
Hendriks Greenhouses is a well established and respected company that
can look back on a tradition of steady growth. John Peter Hendriks
started the farm in 1953, assisted by two sons, including Andrew Sr.
The 10 acre farm consisted of pears, peaches and cherries, as well
as one greenhouse (20’x 80’) where tomatoes were grown.
Later, they began to grow some flower crops in rotation with other
vegetables. Every few years, more greenhouses were added to increase
cucumber and tomato production.
In 1967, Andrew Sr. took over the business from his father and shifted
the company focus towards flower production. Andrew Sr. had to learn
from scratch; he was not familiar with these types of crops, but there
existed the potential for higher income. The complete transition from
vegetables to flowers spanned 10 to 15 years.
In 1970, Andrew Sr.’s wife Helen suggested they add tropical plants
to their production. This went extremely well and lead, shortly thereafter,
to the development of Indoor Garden production which the Hendriks name
has become famous for in the floral industry, in both Canada and the
U.S. A long time has passed since the Hendriks family began this aspect
of the business, making 20 Indoor Gardens a week, putting care and pride
into each basket. Today, the same care and pride is committed to our
products, while fulfilling orders for up to 10,000 units per day, during
peak seasons. |
Production Our
company has approximately 240,000 square feet of production space, using
both poly and glass. Un-rooted cuttings and plugs are brought in from South
America and Europe, and are rooted onsite which means they are more acclimatized
and much hardier, which in turn leads to a longer shelf life. Our close
and direct relationships with international farms ensures quality of material,
and availability of new and exciting varieties. Our greenhouses were designed
specifically for Indoor Garden production and allow us to foster creativity
and detail in our products while maximizing efficiency. We are committed
to providing our customers with new and innovative plant material for our
Indoor Gardens, because we understand the importance of having a large
selection of unique quality products to sell. We continually search for
more efficient ways to produce our Indoor Gardens, while keeping in mind
that the emphasis must always be on producing a high quality product. |
Development We
are extremely proud of the continual improvement in products that we have
developed over the years, which have lead to our standing as the premier
Indoor Garden producer in North America. But what will ensure that we maintain
our position and competitive edge, is our enthusiasm for improvements as
we move forward. Our Marketing team develops the Indoor Garden program
one year in advance, consulting with the latest trends in design and colour,
while also relying on our own experience and foresight. Working directly
with Asian producers, we design unique containers for each 6 month program,
ranging from pedestals to birdhouses, glazed ceramics to brushed metal,
and chests to baskets. Factory direct purchasing not only helps us better
control the quality and design of our products, but we are also proud of
our involvement in ensuring quality and standards of the factory employees’work
conditions. |
Service Hendriks
Greenhouses has been placing a priority on the highest level of customer
service for over 30 years. We recognize this element as being key to our
successes in the past, and it is why we will continue to succeed into the
future. In order to develop and maintain strong customer relations, it
is necessary to pay attention to individual needs and requests, whether
we are servicing a customer who is a small family run operation, or a large
distributor with retail customers that span the entire U.S. market. In
addition to answering your questions, our Sales team also works closely
with our Marketing department to develop materials and products that are “sales
friendly”. This includes such tools as customized flyers and brochures,
catalogues, product mixes, customized Indoor Garden designs, and easy-access
web information. If you have any questions, please ask. |
